Decatur-Raymond E. Thompson, 93 of Decatur, passed away 2:15 pm Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services to celebrate Raymond's life will be 11:00 am Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Ryan Banman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services from 10 ' 11:00 am Thursday at the funeral home. Interment concluding with the 'Flight Home' ceremony will be in Macon County Memorial Park His family suggests memorial donations be made to East Park Baptist Church. Raymond was born January 5, 1917 in Moweaqua, the son of John C. and Dora Alice (Martin) Thompson. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Air Force. Raymond married Gertrude Lee Taylor on March 7, 1947 in Decatur. Raymond was employed by and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He was a member of the Letter Carriers Association, he was on the board of the Postal Credit Union for 42 years, he was a member of NARFE and AARP, and a long time member of East Park Baptist Church. Raymond was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
He is survived by his sons Ronald Thompson of Florida and Roger Thompson of Decatur; and his brother Glenn (wife ' Bessie) Thompson of Moweaqua.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
