Regina M. Horve's Obituary
Decatur- Regina Schaub Horve, 80, of Decatur, passed away on May 21, 2014. She was born May 18, 1934 in Wolfhagen, Germany. She attended Arolsen, Humanistisches Gymnasium, Kassel Evening School, Paedagogisches Institute, Jugenheim Croydon Polytech UK. She studied in England and spoke with an English accent. She also attended Millikin University.
Services to celebrate Regina’s life will be 2:00p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home from 5-8pm. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials donations may be directed to Decatur Memorial Thrift Shop.
Regina married Bill Horve in a small village named Langendieback, Germany on the 11th of April 1958. They have been married fifty-six years. Together they had two children – Captain Bill Horve of the Decatur Fire Department (deceased) and Nicole Horve and one Grand Daughter, Andrea Nicole Horve.
She traveled home with Bill when he was discharged from the U.S. Army and very quickly passed all the tests and wait time to receive her American citizenship, which she was very proud of.
Regina worked at Sunny Side School and Associated Otolaryngology and has been retired fifteen years. She volunteered at the Decatur Memorial Hospital Thrift Store for over 25 years and in her spare time she enjoyed cooking, traveling and was an avid reader.
She was also 1st degree Black Belt in judo, helped run the Decatur Dojo and organized many state and national tournaments.
Regina was a very private person and while learning the American way of life she managed to keep her old German customs and way of life.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Horve, daughter Nicole Horve (Brenda), granddaughter Andrea Horve and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilhelm and Elfriede Schaub, brother Wilhelm Schaub and son Bill Horve.
