Rev. R. "Gene" Bohannon's Obituary
Rev. R Gene Bohannon, 94, passed away on June 14, 2023, in Decatur, IL.
Gene was born to William Sr. and Iva Bohannon on April 1, 1929. He married Bernice Downing on February 11, 1954, in East Alton, IL. He was a Korean War vet. Gene was a man that loved God. He sacrificed everything for the ministry and for his family. He knew the Bible forwards and backwards. He was a member of the Church of God and Maranatha Assembly of God. He retired as a minister from Church of God in Christopher, IL.
Gene enjoyed tinkering. If he could fix it rather than have someone else come in to fix it, he would do it. He also enjoyed gardening and cultivated roses. During his later years, Gene worked for the Rolling Prairie Library System driving the Book Mobile. Gene loved his family and would do anything for them. He will be greatly missed.
Gene is survived by his children, David Lee Bohannon Sr., Gina Bohannon, Scott (Yanina) Bohannon; brothers, Larry Bohannon, Glen Bohannon; grandchildren, Kara (Seth) Deppe, Amber Bohannon, Gabriella (Robert Davis) Bohannon, Haley (Andrew Cloud) Bohannon, Marisol Bohannon, Nathan Bohannon; great grandchildren, Silveya Rose, Alexandria, Austin; great great grandchild, Benjamin, and many extended family and friends.
Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Bohannon; siblings, Norma, Mable, John Sr, William Lee Jr., Gerald, Clayton, Dorothy, James Lee “JL”, Iva Mae, Don; grandson, David Lee Bohannon Jr.
A service will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023, at pm 1:00 PM at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home with a visitation and hour prior. A burial at Graceland Cemetery will follow services.
