Richard D. "Dick" Bodine's Obituary
Richard D. 'Dick' Bodine, 91, of Decatur, passed away at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 in his home with his loving family by his side. Dick was born August 3, 1920, in Decatur, Illinois the son of James and Sylvia (Knight) Bodine. Dick along with his wife Dorothy founded Bodine Sewer April 19, 1960. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Dick loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His hobbies included watching the St. Louis Cardinals, attending car auctions, working in the yard and playing with his dogs. Dick was a member of Laborers Local #159, Operator's Local #965, Stephen Decatur Masonic Lodge #979, Scottish Rite Valley of Springfield, Cornbelt Shrine Club, Decatur Shrine Club, and Ansar Shrine. He married Dorothy L. Ritsch on August 28, 1940 in Old Monroe, Missouri. They shared almost seventy years of marriage. He is survived by his sons: Richard H. Bodine and wife Aletha of Decatur, Mike Bodine and wife Phyllis of Mt. Zion, Jack Bodine and wife Laura of Decatur, and Pat Bodine and wife Kimm of Mt. Zion, grandchildren; Julie, Rodney, Kimmie, Jodi, Jackalyn, Jami, Jennifer, Nik, and Jennifer, fourteen great-grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son; Gary L. Bodine; granddaughter, Karen Sue Bodine; sisters: Lora Ellen and Pearl; brothers: Earl, Mick, Goody, Forrest, and Fred. Services to celebrate Richard's life will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2012 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the funeral home with Masonic rites at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery concluding with the 'Flight Home' ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the Shriners Hospital for Children or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr.'s McCormack and Waters and staff; special friends: Butch Grossman, Ronnie Aubert, and James Bond; caregivers: Judy Thacker, Jamie Holmes, Vicky Jones, and Linda Knorr.
