Richard A. "Dick" Morris' Obituary
Richard A. “Dick” Morris, 85, of Decatur, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 in his home, surrounded by his family.
Richard was born on October 18, 1930, in Decatur, IL the son of Ernest and Sada (Hazlet) Morris. He served his country proudly in the United States during the Korean War Conflict. He worked for Illinois Bell for many years. He was a member of Experimental Aircraft Association, board member of Moose Lodge 684 of Decatur, member of the Sunset Squadron of Hilvety Airport of Moweaqua, and an avid sport pilot. Richard and his wife Maxine, were also foster parents for several children. Richard loved flying, riding motorcycles, dancing, and most of all, spending time with his family. He married Maxine Wallace on December 4, 1954 in Decatur. They shared 54 wonderful years together. She preceded him in death on May 22, 2008.
Surviving are his special friend and 2nd love of his life, Fran Kramer of Decatur; son, Rick Morris of Niantic; daughters, Lisa (Randy) Leffler of Oreana, Valerie (John) Miller, Debbie (Roger Lipe) Wiley; grandchildren, Jennifer, Adam, Amy; step-grandchildren, Jeff, Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Donovan, Ashley, Amber, Tyler, Kylie; step-great granddaughter, Madison, and a host of extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine, parents, brother, Alvin Morris and one infant brother.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. John’s Hospice for all of their compassionate care they provided for Richard.
Funeral services to celebrate Richard’s life will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016, in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to Cancer Care Specialist of Decatur.
