Richard Flaugher's Obituary
Richard W. Flaugher, 85, of Cerro Gordo, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services to celebrate Richard’s life will be at 11am Saturday, November 22, 2014 at The Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church, prior to the services. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Cerro Gordo American Legion Post 117.
Richard was born on January 19, 1929, the son of Robert H. and Louise K. (Willson) Flaugher Sr. He was a graduate of Cerro Gordo High School where he excelled in all sports. Richard later graduated from Coyne Electrical Trade School in Chicago. He married Juanita Taylor on October 8, 1950 in Cerro Gordo. They shared 64 wonderful years together. Richard was a member of the Illinois National Guard and proudly served overseas in the Korean War. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 117. Richard was a life time member of The Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church, serving as trustee and usher. He retired as an electrical contractor, owner of Flaugher Electric Service, Inc. Richard served on the Decatur Construction Board of Appeals, Homebuilders, and Independent Electrical Contractor’s Association.
His hobby was his home and yard as well as watching the Cubs play. He was a sponsor of the Lakelanders Country Opry and attended regularly. He also enjoyed listening to and watching Polka Shows. He also loved boating on the beautiful lake of Ozarks.
Richard leaves behind his wife Juanita, sons Philip Flaugher of Decatur, James E. (Deanne) Flaugher of Cerro Gordo, grandson Benjamin of Cerro Gordo, and brother Robert H. Flaugher Jr. of Forsyth.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Elizabeth Flaugher. Memorials may be made to The Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church or donor’s choice.
