Richard Douglas Gray's Obituary
Richard Douglas “Doug” Gray, 67, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 1:00 A.M. on Thursday (08-29-2024) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.
Doug was born on September 14, 1956, in Decatur, IL, the son of Gary Gillette Gray and Margaret Ann (Connelly) Gray. He married Susan M. Newton on March 6, 1976, in Decatur, IL. They had been married for forty-eight and a half years.
Doug was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and a Deacon. He taught Sunday School, led youth groups, and taught VBS. Doug coached a lot of sports including baseball and soccer for his children and others. He was also very good at gardening, loved to birdwatch and would feed all the animals outdoors. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Illinois Athletics and U.S. Men's and Women’s National Soccer Teams. He also supported various charitable causes throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife Susan of Decatur, IL; children: Ross Alan Gray and Lillian Paige Gray, both of Decatur, IL; three brothers: Gary Gillette Gray, Jr, and wife Janet of Decatur, IL, Geoffrey Mark Gray and wife Sheila of Worcester, MA, Michael Todd Gray and wife Tanya of Decatur, IL; sister: Julie Ann LaChance and husband Anthony of Littleton, CO.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday (09-04-2024) at Westminster Presbyterian Church in the Blue Chapel.
