Decatur-Richard “Dick” Howe, 91 of Decatur, passed away 8:48 pm Saturday, September 26, 2009 at McKinley Court Care Centre.
Services to celebrate Dick’s life will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 2, 2009
at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 – 8:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home with Masonic Rites at 7:45 pm. Interment with “Flight Home” ceremonies will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children. Online memories and condolences may be shared with Dick’s family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
Dick was born May 13, 1918 in Decatur, the son of Herschel D. and Clara J. (Harper) Howe. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1937. He married Pearl M. Calvert on May 22, 1939 in New London, MO. Dick was a graduate of Caterpillar apprentice program and retired from Caterpillar in 1980 as a process engineer. He was a member of Illinois Masonic Lodge for sixty-five years, member of Springfield Consistory and Ansar Shrine. Dick was a member of Macon Lodge #8, Argenta #871, Cerro Gordo #600 and South Macon #467. He was a longtime member of Holiday Rambler RV Club, he was a founder of Progress School for MR children, he was a member of the Moose Lodge. Past Master Stephen Decatur Lodge #979, A.F. & A.M. – Scottish Rite, and Valley of Springfield – Ansar Temple.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law Nancy (Paul) Lineen of Decatur, two granddaughters Kristi M. Poling of Philadelphia, PA and Kathy S. Goldin of Ridgefield, WA; and one great-granddaughter Celeste M. Cuti of Ridgfield, WA.
Dick was reunited in heaven with his wife Pearl, his son Steven, and his parents.
