Richard McDonald's Obituary
Richard “Dick” McDonald, 75, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Decatur Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born on January 28, 1950, in Bloomington, IL, the son of Robert Paul McDonald and Donna Davis McDonald. He had lived in Decatur since the age of five, where he attended Decatur Schools and graduated from MacArthur High School in 1968. Dick worked as an agent representing Farmers Insurance Group for 42 years before his retirement in 2015.
His passion was British cars, especially Austin-Healeys. He was a longstanding member of the Austin-Healey club of America, the Illini Chapter of the Austin-Healey Club, and the chapter delegate to the national organization. He also enjoyed watching Formula One racing and “car guys” shows on TV. He liked to tinker and could fix anything.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Malcolm Stockinger and Douglas Whitcomb.
Those surviving include his wife of 35 years, Jean Campbell; children, Brandon (Michelle) McDonald of Findlay, Adam McDonald of Decatur, and Aaron (Heather) Campbell of Grand Rapids, MI; three siblings, Mike (Betty) McDonald of Decatur, Steve (Panawan) McDonald of Thailand, and Susan (Terry) Rohman, also of Decatur; grandchildren, Drew, Karina, Khyra, Lillian and Andrew; greatgrandchildren, Lucy, Wyatt, and Jay; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation for Dick McDonald will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held the following day, Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 1 p.m. with burial to follow in Graceland Cemetery.
Dick will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. The family of Dick MacDonald would like to extend sincere thanks to the caring staff of Decatur Memorial Hospital and The Arc at Hickory Point for their kindness and care at a difficult time.
