Richard C. Paine's Obituary
Richard C. Paine, 92, died July 18, 2019 at DMH. He was born to Charles and Lydia Paine on April 12, 1927. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur and felt doubly blessed to have Christian parents and to be a US Citizen.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday July 23rd at 10:30 AM in the veteran section of Graceland Cemetery with Rev. Jonathan Torrenson officiating.
Dick was a graduate of Decatur High School, a US Army WWII veteran, and graduate of U of I, where he received academic honors by having his name engraved on the bronze tablet for the class of 1951. He immediately passed his CPA exam and worked for local CPA firms and Millikin University, teaching accounting, until he started his own CPA practice.
Dick was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he served in numerous leadership positions. He was instrumental in the founding of the Lutheran School Association and served on the initial board of directors.
He is survived by a cousin, Patricia (Robert) Gruber of Lexington, KY and scores of friends who knew him as a compassionate and caring man. He was particularly fond of sports, animals and nonfiction reading.
Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lutheran School Association or Macon County Animal Shelter.
Dick was beloved by many but has now met God, who created and redeemed him. What a glorious, joyous moment that must have been for him!
