Richard Rora's Obituary
Decatur-Richard Rora, 83, of Decatur formerly of Kincaid, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family after suffering a long illness.
He was a loving son of Mike Rora and Marie (Lanzotti) Rora and loved by his stepfather, Lester “Pat” Faber. He was brother to “Patty” and Michael “Mick” and half-brother to Joanne and “Billy Joe” Faber.
Richard honorably served his country as Radar Man SPC 1st Class with the US Navy aboard the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier during the Korean War. He coached Khoury League Baseball and proudly served the city of Decatur for over twenty-seven years.
Richard was greeted in Heaven by his sons Richard Scott and Jeffery Thomas and grandson Cary “Matthew” Whitacre.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Mary “Margaret” (Meachum) whom he married on January 2, 1957 and renewed their vows September 10, 2016, son Michael and his wife Margaret, daughter Juli Whitacre and her husband Richard “Cary”, and son James Patrick and late life partner “Sonny” Hicks. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral liturgy to celebrate Richard’s life will be 2 PM Friday, September 23, 2016 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Rev. John Burnette officiating. Visitation will be from 12-2 PM prior to the services at the funeral home. Inurnment with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard and the “Flight Home Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the March of Dimes.
