Rita Marie Raupp's Obituary
Decatur – Rita Marie (Freischlag) Raupp passed away May 5, 2018, at Imboden Creek Living Center in Decatur.
Rita was born December 20, 1925 in Decatur, Illinois to William and Helen (Otto) Freischlag, the second of three children.
Rita attended St. Thomas grade school and Saint Teresa High School. She met her husband William J. ‘Bill’ Raupp in high school, and they married November 27, 1947. He preceded her in death March 24, 2015. They were married for 68 years.
Rita worked at the First National Bank of Decatur, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked many years alongside her husband at the family business, Raupp’s Shoes.
She was a founding member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and a life-long member of St. Mary’s Auxiliary, receiving recognition for 2,000 hours of volunteer work, delivering countless flowers and chairing charity events. She enjoyed golf, bowling, water aerobics, and loved to play pinochle and bridge with her friends.
She is survived by daughters: Linda Brilley of Decatur and Cynthia Villa of Morton, IL; sons: John Jr. of St. George, KS and Stephen (Deborah) Raupp of Chatham, IL; grandchildren: Shane (Amy) Brilley, Jason (Nicole) Putman, Jessica Snow, Jamie (Karen) Putman, Brad and Luke Raupp; and great-grandchildren Liz (Adam), Cayden, Christian, Michael, Kate, Julia, and Tillie Mae.
Rita is also survived by her brothers-in-law: James (Thelma) Raupp of Decatur and Richard Raupp of St. Louis, MO, and sisters-in-law: Nancy (Joseph) Blanton of Sikeston, MO, and Ruth Erker of St. Louis, MO; and special friends Bob Brilley, Chuck Thorpe, Joel Greenberg and Todd Babbington.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, and brothers Bill and Paul.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Imboden Creek Living Center and Dorothy Flagg and Wanda Nelson for the loving care and concern given Rita.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 11, 2018, at Holy Family Catholic Church with visitation preceding at 10:00 AM; Very Rev. Joseph M. Molloy, V.F. celebrant. Entombment will follow at Mary Queen of Angels Mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Teresa High School, or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Illinois.
