Robert "Bob" Eugene Hugo's Obituary
Robert “Bob” E. Hugo, 82 years old, of Decatur, IL, entered the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, October 13th, 2020 in Decatur Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. Robert was born on November 11th, 1937 in Centralia, IL, son of Louis Hugo Sr. and Sylvia (Williams) Hugo.
Bob married Bonni (Swift) Hugo on July 19th, 1963, in Decatur, IL. He was a Commercial Sign Painter and a talented artist his entire life. He opened Hugo Sign Service on East Wood Street in Decatur in 1968. Several years later, he decided to work free-lance for various businesses throughout central Illinois. He spent the most time as a contracted sign painter and installer for the Ridings Family of Dealerships and several other Decatur area car dealerships. He had many friends in the car sales industry. Bob also spent many years painting stock cars for various Macon Speedway drivers, including Butch Garner, Marty Hiser, and his favorite driver, his son-in-law, Scott Williams.
Bob was also a talented musician. He could play piano, bass guitar and most enjoyed playing guitar. In the 60’s, he spent time playing guitar and bass guitar in several popular local bands, including Bob Hugo’s Rock & Rollers. He also spent time playing with Big Ron Hoffman, throughout central Illinois.
He loved to play pool and played in APA leagues two times per week. He was most proud when his team advanced to Las Vegas finals in 2010. He will be missed by his teammates and so many friends from the pool league, especially his dear friend, Kevin Watkins and all his friends at Biggen’s.
Last year, on December 26th, Bob earned his 30-year Bronze Medallion of Sobriety. He was an avid supporter and believer in the Alcoholics Anonymous program and through the years, he sponsored and helped many fighting their own battle, while always working on his own battle, “one day at a time”, as he would say.
He is survived by wife, Bonni Hugo; children Tim Hugo, Cathy (Hugo) Williams and her husband, Scott, Robert T. Hugo and his wife, Becky, Todd Hugo and his wife, Lily, Cayla (Hugo) Hittmeier and her husband, Steve, and Jon Hugo; six beautiful grandchildren; and his three sisters, Delores Estell, Mickey Hargis, and Sylvia Fritz.
