The rain came down steadily as the thunder rolled in the distance like the memory of an artillery barrage unleashed in a battle fought long ago. Three sharp volleys of rifle fire by the Guard of Honor then came the beautifully mournful 24 notes of "Tapsâ?, then, did I know this â??Veteransâ? soul had found peace at last.
Bob was truly a friendly person who never had a cross word to say about anyone. Bob played on our Sheriff's softball team back in the 1980's and was a really good player. Working in the courthouse and law enforcement center for many years, it was always a pleasure to see Bob Kirkland making his rounds. Rest in Peace, friend, you made many employees smile every day. I've had the honor and privilege of working with Bob for more than 20 years and gaining his friendship during that time. Bob was not only a hard worker, he was a smart worker. I enjoyed my conversations with Bob and I will remember his gentle smile. For the family, please remember that Bob spoke of you very often and shared his love for you with all of us! I knew Bob for the couple of years that I worked at the courthouse. He was always so very kind and helpful…a joy to be around; he made me feel welcome as a "newbie" at the courthouse. We also discovered that a former neighbor of his was a dear friend of mine, and he would "catch up" on how Mrs. Kearney, now a widow, was doing. Bob was a great human being, and will be sorely missed. May God bless you with comfort and peace knowing that Bob is at rest in his heavenly home and, that as a believer in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour, you will be with him again.
I'm so sad to lose such a kind man! The courthouse will NEVER be the same without him. No one will be able to take care of ALL of us like Bob did. He will truly be missed. Thoughts and prayers to his boys.Shelly Clow

Bob was the most caring and helpful person in County Complex these past 24 years I worked with him. I was working one Sunday at the Courthouse and was ready to leave and notice I had a flat tire.Bob was driving by and stopped.
