Robert L Clemens' Obituary
Robert Lyle Clemens, 81, of Decatur formerly of Mt. Vernon passed away on Monday, May 4, 2015 in Heartland Manor Care of Decatur.
Robert was born on August 25, 1933 in Mt. Vernon the son of Arthur A. and Roma L. (Smith) Clemens. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He was retired from Caterpillar Manufacturing Company after 37 years. He was a member of the American Legion Castle William Post 105, South Macon Masonic Lodge, and the Eastern Star. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He married Betty Fletcher in 1956 at Mt. Vernon.
Surviving are his wife, Betty; son, Robert Clemens (Julie) of South Jordan, UT; daughter, Venessa Clemens of Decatur, IL; sister-in-law, Janet Clemens of Decatur; grandchildren, Taylor Clemens and Cole Clemens and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard Clemens and Marvin Clemens; and two sisters, Donna Watts and Wilma Sandy.
Graveside service to celebrate Robert’s life will be 1 PM Saturday, May 9, 2015 in Panther Fork Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Friday evening in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Masonic Lodge or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
