Robert Lee Evans' Obituary
Robert “Bob” Lee Evans, 89, joined his Lord and Savor on April 25, 2023.
Bob was born on March 25, 1934, near Casner, Illinois, to John and Sylvia (Morr) Evans. Bob was an incredibly faith-filled, loving man who loved God first and then his family. He worked hard as a farmer but even harder at harvesting souls for God’s kingdom as he spent many years teaching Sunday School classes, serving and ministering in various churches and Christian organizations. He was a lay speaker in the United Methodist Church. He was a co-founder of the Decatur Chapter of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship international and coordinator for the weekly television show “The WAY, the Truth, The Life.” As a career farmer, he served on the U of I Extension Council, the 4H Youth Committee, and the State Soil and Water Conservation Board, being recognized as Outstanding District Director by the State in 1977. After retiring from farming, he spent his summers at the fairs and celebrations in the God-Mobile. He was the true definition of a Christian man who put his faith and trust in the work of God. His life mirrored and resembled Christ-like behavior as he showed grace, love, and mercy to every person he encountered. There was not one person that he wouldn’t help in any way that he could or that they needed. Heaven has gained a truly wonderful, God-fearing man, and he will be greatly missed by those of us that remain here.
Bob is predeceased by his parents; his brothers Don and Gene Evans; daughter-in-law Jody Evans; sister-in-law Delores Evans; and brother-in-law Jim Lindsey. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Bessie (Gardner) Evans, and their sons Steve and Stan (Sonya) Evans. Bob will also be leaving his four grandchildren who loved him so very much, Jenni Buyer, Joel Evans (Laura), Craig Evans (Erin) and Kyle Evans (Karine); and five great-grandchildren, Celeste Beierle (Elliot), Elijah, Benjamin, Alden, and Emersyn Evans. Also left to cherish Bob’s memory are his sisters-in-law Shirley Evans and Edith Lindsey, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and loving friends.
A visitation for Bob will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 10:00 am, with a celebration service following at 11:00 am at Destiny Fellowship, located at 2500 North Main Street, Moweaqua, Illinois. Interment will follow at the South Macon Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Destiny Fellowship.
