Robert L. Lewis' Obituary
Decatur-Robert L. Lewis, 81, of Decatur, died Wednesday, September 03, 2014.
Private family services will be held. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Oasis Drop In Center.
He was born August 19, 1933 in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of Harold and Margret (Peterlein)Lewis. Robert started his career with Bigelow Mills and was promoted to various positions, moving to Decatur in 1962. He founded Lewis Floor Covering, and later began developing real estate throughout Decatur, most notably French Quarter West, City Plaza, and the property that is now DMH Family Lodge. He was an avid aviation enthusiast, and enjoyed many hours piloting his plane. He married Judith Anne Murphy and she preceded him in death.
He leaves behind his children Margaret Lewis of Decatur, Catherine Lewis of New York City, Robert Lewis (Nina) of Michigan City, IN; Angela Lewis of Morristown, NJ; Pamela (Kevin) Chappell of Helena, MT; and Shelly Lewis of Tallahassee, FL; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brother James Lewis, sister Peggy, several nieces and nephews, and special family friend Shawn O’Donnell.
