Robert Morthland's Obituary
Decatur-Robert Eugene “Red” Morthland, 71, of Decatur, passed to be with the angels above Saturday, June 20, 2009 in his peaceful home surrounded by his family.
Services to celebrate Red’s life will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. The family requests casual attire. Interment with “Flight Home” Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to DMH Hospice or the American Diabetes Association. Red was born October 22, 1937 in Decatur the son of Miles and Helen (Payne) Morthland. He was the Owner/Operator of J & R Janitorial Service for over thirty-three years. He also had a woodworking business were he made crafts and took them to shows. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and was an accomplished archer. Grandpa will always be remembered for his wonderful smile, laughter, wisdom, strength, and his passion for his family and dog Sadie. He married his soul mate Carolyn Melhorn February 15, 1957 in Decatur.
He leaves behind Carolyn, his beloved wife of over fifty-two years, daughter; Jacki Stiverson and husband Michael of Cerro Gordo, sons; Dwane Morthland and wife Teri of Mt. Zion and Bob Morthland and wife Karen of Decatur, grandchildren; Lisa Welsh, Stephanie Stiverson, Staci and Erik Morthland, and Dusti, Daniele, and Dakota Morthland, step-grandchildren; Tracy, Michael, and Matthew Stiverson, seven step-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Kay Russell and husband Bill, niece Tracy Kawaski and husband Perry, nephew Bill Russell and wife Tammy and their children Stephanie, Chelsie, and Harley, sister-in-law Ann Melhorn, nephew Tim Melhorn and children Shane and Seth, niece Karen Melhorn and children Shelby and Tyler, and special family friend Myra Sharp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, brother-in-law James Melhorn, and mother-in-law and father-in-law George and Mary Melhorn.
The family would like to give a special thanks to DMH Hospice especially Jim, Gail, Debbie, Leslie, and Jan for their dedication, hard work, and for taking care of our special man. Also thanks to Terry, Aaron, and Ken from DMH Medical Equipment.
We know God called upon one of his angels, as he needed help up above! You will always be in our hearts and souls.
