Robert E. Sheridan's Obituary
Decatur-Robert E. Sheridan, 91, of Decatur, passed away Friday, February 05, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Bob was born August 3, 1924 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Marquis Wilbur and Bernadine (Shannon) Sheridan. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and Korea. In 2012 he went on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Bob worked at A.E. Staley Co. for seventeen years and then worked at Caterpillar Inc. retiring after twenty-two years of service. He was a member of the Oddfellows and was the first fire chief at the Long Creek Fire Department. Bob enjoyed woodworking. He married Frances Berger April 19, 1945 and she preceded him in death on June 11, 1994. He then married Velma Ware October 5, 1996.
Bob leaves behind his wife Velma of Decatur, son Michael Sheridan of Decatur, daughter Linda (Lonnie) Hilton of Charleston, step-sons Norman (Lisa) Ware of Decatur and Lyle (Shirley) Ware of Memphis, TN, step-daughter Judy (Frank) Smith of Decatur, grandchildren Cory Sheridan and Tina (Richard) Johnson, and four great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, infant daughter Joyce Ann Sheridan and grandson Jeffrey Hilton.
Graveside services to celebrate Bob’s life will be 10 AM Monday, February 8, 2016 at Graceland Cemetery in Decatur with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.
