Robert L. Shookman's Obituary
Decatur-Robert L. Shookman, 84, of Decatur, passed away peacefully at 11:31 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2010 in his home surrounded by his wife and sons.
Services to celebrate Robert's life will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment with 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Forsyth United Methodist Church. Bob was born March 4, 1926 in Rushville, Indiana the son of Rev. Emil and Beulah (Warren) Shookman. After graduating from high school, Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Returning after the war he worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria, Joliet, Decatur, and retired from Lafayette, Indiana plant in 1986. In addition to the time spent with his family he enjoyed wood working, Cubs baseball, playing cards, and barbershop singing. He married the love of his life Dorothy Elaine Wood July 6, 1947 in the West Liberty Christian Church Covington, Indiana. To this union three sons were born Lewis A. Dennis R. and Brian K. Shookman.
He leaves behind Dorothy his beloved wife of over sixty-three years, sons; Lewis A. of Decatur, Dennis R. and wife Kathy of Washington, IL, and Brian K. and wife Mindy of Decatur, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and four step-sisters.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, step-father, two brothers, two step-brothers, and one step-sister.
The family gives thanks to the nurses at Fresinus Renal Care, Drs. Fior and Dawood who cared for his illnesses for many years.
