Robert E. Smith's Obituary
Decatur-Robert E. Smith, 83, of Decatur, passed away at 9:30 p.m. at Symphony of Decatur.
Bob was born January 20, 1930, in Shelbyville, Illinois, the son of Jesse and Leta Smith. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Purity Bakery. He enjoyed bowling in the Senior League, the St. Louis Cardinals, and going for rides in the car with his wife. Bob married Mary Verna Lugar January 1, 1956. They shared over fifty-eight years together.
Bob leaves behind his beloved wife Verna, sons Larry and David Smith of Decatur, daughters Laura (Dave) Cundiff, Alyson Fowler, Julie (Eric) Smith all of Decatur, and Kim (Richard) Barnes of Cahokia, brother Frank Smith of Jackson, Tennessee, twenty grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George and Kenneth Smith, and sister Donna Huskey.
Services to celebrate Bob’s life will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
