Robert Joe Stearns' Obituary
Mr. Robert “Bob” J. Stearns 85 of Decatur Illinois departed this life November 13, 2019 at Decatur Memorial Hospital after a brief illness, with his family and friends by his side.
Robert was born November 15, 1933 in Carmi, Illinois. The son of John H. Stearns and Wilma (Ritsch) Stearns. Robert is an Alumni of Stephen Decatur High School. Robert is a veteran of the United States Air Force. On January 29, 1955 he married Patricia L. Marohl. He was a chief QC inspector for Raytheon, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge. Bob has always been an old car enthusiast. He owned his own Hudson and participated in many car shows, winning several awards and trophies. Bob was a Nascar fan all the way to the end, waking up in the hospital at race time to watch racing one more time. His favorite Nascar driver was Martin Truex. Robert was an amazing person and a loving person with a Heart of Gold. He was little in stature but had a huge heart full of love for his family and friends. His love was unconditional and forgiving. He worked hard all of his life to ensure that his family was taken care of. He wanted the best for everyone he knew as did all that knew him. Robert leaves so many fond and loving memories to all that knew him.
He leaves his family: Terry Joe Koontz (Sharon) of Decatur, IL: George Koontz of Las Vegas, NV: Robert “Doug” Stearns (Kathy) of Orlando, FL: Timothy “Scott” Stearns (Lesa) of Mt Zion, IL: and James “Pat” Stearns (Amy) of Decatur, IL. He also leaves loving memories to his 11 grandchildren: Jil, Tara, Dylann, Terry, Michelle, Wesley, Bobbie, Karla, Tyler, Whitney and Brynn. He has 20 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. He also leaves his companion MaryAlice Wrone and a host of other family, friends and neighbors who will miss him greatly.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Friday, November 22nd, 2019 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 11 AM Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Macon County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be left to Cancer Care Specialist of Illinois, Cancer Center of Decatur.
Robert’s Family would like to thank Dr. Damarla, and the 5th floor nursing staff at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Also a special thanks to Storm (Kim), Vince, Steve, Gary, Ron, Sam, Jamie, Rick, Chad and Gary who spent much time together in the “Man Cave”.
