Robert L. Strong Sr.'s Obituary
Decatur-Robert L. Strong Sr., 77, of Decatur, passed away at 9:57 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at Aspen Ridge Care Centre with his family by his side.
Services to celebrate Bob's life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Entombment with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard and 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be at the Pieta Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery. Bob was born March 15, 1933 in Decatur, the son of Charles C. and Edith (Newton) Strong. He proudly served his country in U.S. Army. He began his working career as a paperboy. He then worked at Leader Iron Works and Illinois Power where he retired in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion and Ansar Shrine. Bob loved working on small engines, camping, bowling, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Illini. He married Mary Bilyeu June 29, 1952.
He leaves behind Mary his beloved wife of over fifty-eight years, son; Robert Jr. and companion Doris of Johnston, Iowa, grandchildren; Ryan Strong of Decatur and Tracey Martin and husband Rick of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and great-grandson; Kaleb.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. William Franklin his nurses and staff and the nurses and staff at Aspen Ridge for all of their compassionate care.
