Robert Wayne Ray's Obituary
Robert Wayne Ray, 90, of Decatur, passed away Monday, October 31, 2016, in his home, surrounded by his family.
Robert was born May 11, 1926, in Pleasant Plains, IL, the son of Earl and Anna (Robinson) Ray. He graduated from Pleasant Plains High School and was a World War II Navy Veteran having served as a Radioman in the South Pacific. He married Joyce Marie Walden on February 29, 1948, in Bloomington, IL. He was a 60 + year member of First United Methodist Church.
He was an underwriter for five years with State Farm Insurance Company in Bloomington, IL. He worked 35 years with Federal Kemper as a Collection Manager for many years retiring in 1986.  He later worked at Ming Auto Body then 14 years at Decatur Auto Auction.
Robert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce; one son, Gregory Ray of  Decatur; four grandchildren, Corey, Bobby (Charlene Jones), Lon Dale and Tiffany; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl Ray of Petersburg, IL; five nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary; daughter-in-law, Mary; infant grandson; two brothers; three sisters and two nieces.
The family would like to give a special thank you to DMH Hospice, Rev. Dan Spruell, Dr. Keith Smith, Jane Pirano, family and friends for the care, support and help during Bob’s final months with Alzheimer’s.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. The family requests casual attire. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to DMH Hospice.
