Robert W. "Bob" Hershfelt's Obituary
Robert W. “Bob” Hershfelt, 93, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014, in Heritage Health in Mt. Zion, IL.
Bob was born November 1, 1920, in Carlyle, IL, the son of Philip and Helen (Etter) Hershfelt. February 9, 1944, was one of the proudest days in Bob’s life. In the morning Bob was commissioned into the United States Navy Air Corp, and later in that afternoon he married Kathryn Daily. Bob and Kay shared 56 years of their lives together. Bob graduated from Decatur High School. He owned and operated United Automotive Electric, Incorporated for over 50 years. He had many interests in his life, but what he enjoyed the most was golfing with his buddies, especially at Nelson Park Golf Course, and then spending time with them afterwards.
Bob leaves behind his sons, Jack (companion, Marsha) Hershfelt of Jacksonville; Mike (Shelly)Hershfelt of Decatur; sisters, Mary Ann (Dale) Rueter of Decatur; Betty Taylor of Dunedin, FL; two grandchildren, Adam (Sarah) Hershfelt of Fraser, CO; Alison (Freddie) Washington of Denver, CO; and one great-grandchild, Wilamina Hershfelt.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn; parents; and brothers, Philip “Bud” Hershfelt and Ralph Hershfelt.
A memorial visitation to celebrate Bob’s life will be 4-6 p.m Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Bob may be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Macon County Animal Care and Control Center, or to the Decatur Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation.
