Robert Whitacre's Obituary
Robert Eugene Whitacre, 94, of Decatur, Il, passed away at 6:00 A.M. on Saturday (10-11-2025) at his home.
Robert was born on April 11, 1931, in Decatur, IL, the son of Harold Whitacre and Gladys (LaDow) Whitacre. He married Evelyn Silkwood on July 17, 1971, in Decatur, IL. She survives him.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was in the Division of Paratroopers and had made 81 jumps. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #105. He attended Wesley United Methodist Church. Robert worked at the G.E. Plant and at A.E. Staley’s in Decatur, IL. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, and loved watching westerns.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn of Decatur, IL; son: Ralph Whitacre of San Diego, CA; two daughters: Judy Simmons and Jane Hutchinson both of Cerulean, KY; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday (10-11-2025) at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home with visitation one hour before the service. The burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Decatur, IL.
