Robert C. Williams' Obituary
Decatur – Robert Chapman Williams, 85, of Decatur passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2014 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Robert was born on February 5, 1929 in Williamsville, IL the son of Eugene Edward and Ruth (Chapman) Williams. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for over sixty years and was a long time usher. He served his country proudly in the U.S Army. He was a member of the American Legion, DAV, Telephone Pioneers and former member of Decatur Boat Club. He retired from Illinois Bell after 43 years of service. After retirement he volunteered for the Boy Scout camp in Pana, Midwest Mission Distribution Center, Decatur Celebration, and Meals on Wheels.
He enjoyed family camping trips, boating, deer hunting, woodworking and traveling to Oregon to visit his daughter and grand-daughter. He married Louise Ann Best on October 13, 1951in Decatur and was married for over 50 years. She preceded him in death on December 31, 2002.
Surviving are his son, Jeffrey Williams of Decatur; Susan Williams-Wilcox of Hillsboro, OR; sister, Barbara J. Current of Forsyth; and granddaughter Grace Wilcox of Hillsboro, OR.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
The family would like to thank Heartland staff, DMH staff, family friend Dianne Endrizzi and son Jeffrey Williams for all their care of Robert. The family would also like to thank special friends Jerry and Nancy Wade and Jackie Grace for being a part of Robert’s life.
Funeral Service to celebrate Robert’s life will be 10 AM Friday, March 28, 2014 in Grace United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Thursday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to Economy Shop at Grace United Methodist Church.
