Robert Wong's Obituary
On Friday, January 4, 2019, Robert “Bob” Wong, loving husband and father, departed this life at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Bob was born September 21, 1932 in Duluth, MN to Harry and Marie (Gunsoles) Wong. He served his country in the the Army National Guard and worked for many years as a mechanical engineer before retiring in 1986. He opened his own business, Robert’s Cutlery, in 1982 and expanded it to Decatur Surplus, which operated in Decatur for nearly 35 years. He married Ilene Morris Leach in 1981. Together they shared 4 sons, Brad, Greg, Steven and Rick.
He was a member of Marlin Firearms Collectors Association for many years. Bob loved fishing, cooking and attending gun shows. Recently, he developed a passion for the organ and taught himself to play.
Surviving is his wife, Ilene Wong; stepsons, Steven (Janet) Leach of Englewood, OH and Rick Leach of Decatur, IL; sisters, Mae Larson of Wisconsin and Jean Perry on Minnesota; granddaughters, Jen (Shane) Guidebeck and Samantha Wong, both of Bloomington, IL; step-granddaughter, Brandy (Kurt) Hankerson of Newark, DE; grandson, Aaron Wong of Hollywood, FL and step-grandson, Gabriel Leach of Dayton, OH; two great granddaughters, three great grandsons and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Brad and Greg Wong and sister, Loye Donarski.
Memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 11, 2019 at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 1645 S 44th St., Decatur, IL 62521. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Inurnment will be at Graceland Cemetery.
