Rodger Dale Benz's Obituary
Rodger Dale Benz, 81, of Charlottesville, VA, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, at Autumn Care of Madison Nursing Home, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife and family. His final moments were spent the way he lived his life — close to those he cherished most.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. and Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on March 7, 2026, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur, IL.
Rodger was born on May 10, 1944, at Decatur Macon County Hospital, to Hazel TV(Stephens) Benz and Howard B. Benz of North Kenney, IL. Raised on a small farm outside of Kenney, he learned early the values of hard work, perseverance, and commitment — qualities that defined him throughout his life.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Maria Benz; his six children—Darin, Doug, Dustin, Deja, Daniel, and Melissa; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his sister, Sharon Benz. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and nothing meant more to him than time spent together.
Rodger’s enthusiasm for life was boundless. He approached each day with determination, integrity, and quiet strength. He took great satisfaction in building, fixing, and creating — not only homes, but a life filled with purpose and meaning. In 1981, seeking warmer horizons, he moved to Hawaii, where he became a contractor and built custom residential homes, leaving behind craftsmanship that still stands as part of his legacy.
Above all, Rodger will be remembered for his steady presence, his strong character, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured always.
He will be profoundly and lovingly missed.
