Rodney L. French's Obituary
Rodney L. French (74) of Chatham, IL formally from Decatur passed away February 24th
at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.
Rod was born July 2, 1944 in Newton, IL, son of Calvin & Clella French. He was
preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gary French.
Rod leaves his wife, Linda – Chatham, IL; children: Laura Bauman, Ellwood City, PA;
Troy (Minna) French, Myrtle Beach, SC; Christy (Chris) Dunn, Athens, AL; Cory
(Stacey) Chamberlain, Chatham, IL; Grandchildren: Tyler (Christine) Bauman,
Pittsburgh, PA; Shelby French, Glasgow, Scotland; Caden, Caleb & Carter Chamberlain
(the Heroes) Chatham, IL; Great-Grandchildren: Charley & Riley French, Glasgow,
Scotland; Emmett & Indiana Bauman, Pittsburgh, PA. Several very special friends –
Jerry, Tommy, Teddy, Dave & JR.
Rod was retired from SMW, Local 218. He spent nearly 45 yrs working for King Lar
running commercial HVAC work, including a few years with Brinkoetter & Henson
Robison. He loved his job, working with the guys & running work. In addition, he was
known by his family & friends as the “project guy” – no matter who needed help, he was
there for them. Rod had built several homes, a few workshops & garages. He truly
enjoyed helping others.
There will be a visitation only for close friends & immediate family on Wednesday, Feb
27, 2019 from 2 to 4 pm. Graceland-Fairlawn will be in charge of visitation
arrangements and cremation services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, or St Judes
Cancer Research.
