Roger LeRoy Burtner's Obituary
Roger LeRoy Burtner, 77, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord May 16, 2017, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
He was born September 5, 1939, in Decatur, IL to Kenneth LeRoy and Gwendolyn Lorraine (Watkins) Burtner. Roger graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1957. He proudly served in the United States Army. He married Barbara Jean Foster on August 12, 1972, in Decatur. She passed away October 27, 2014. He worked for Tolly’s Grocery for many years and retired from Furrows Lumber. Roger was a member of the Masons and the Shriners. He was very compassionate towards many charities, especially ASPCA and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth Raleigh of Cape Coral, FL; three step children, Cindy Ford, Robin Gray-Woodall and Tim Coverstone all of Decatur; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Barbara.
Honoring Roger’s wishes, cremation services will be provided by the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 2091 N. Oakland Ave. Decatur, IL. No services are planned at this time.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to ASPCA or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, in his name.
