Roger L. Hayes' Obituary
DECATUR — Roger L. Hayes of Largo, FL, formerly of Decatur, passed away on Monday, April 2 at Suncoast Hospice Care Center in Palm Harbor, FL. Roger was born in Decatur on April 28, 1929 to Orville and Donna Hayes. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1947, and married Patricia McCray in 1950. He joined the Army in 1951, and his military career spanned 32 years. He retired from the Illinois National Guard in 1989 at the rank of colonel. After his retirement, Roger and Pat moved from Illinois to Largo, FL where Roger enjoyed playing golf and watching sports. He had season tickets to the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for many years. He was a member of Anona United Methodist Church in Largo.
Preceding Roger in death were his parents, his wife Pat, his brother Gary, and his sister Jean. Surviving are his children: Kathy Hayes and husband Victor Tortorelli of Plymouth Meeting, PA; Doug Hayes and wife Faye of Decatur, IL; and Greg Hayes and wife Julie of Dunedin, FL; his grandchildren: Zachary Hayes of Decatur and Nicole Duncan and husband Eric of Bangor, ME; and great-grandsons Elliot and Cameron Duncan of Bangor.
Graveside service with military rites will be held at 11 am, Friday, June 8, 2018 at Graceland Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
