Ronald Edward Hamson's Obituary
Ronald Edward Hamson, 84, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 2:03 P.M. on Thursday (02-27-2025) in Mt. Zion Healthcare and Rehab.
Ronald was born on March 2, 1940, in Decatur IL, the son of Mary Leora Hamson. He married Frances Louise Edwards on May 26, 1971, in Mt. Vernon, IL. They were married for almost 54 years.
Ronald served his country in the United States Navy from May 1959 – May 1963. He worked at the Firestone Plant here in Decatur for more than 30 years until his retirement. Ronald loved to tinker and could fix almost anything. He also liked to work on lawnmowers and helped out at Mar-Bell Auto Body. Ronald also enjoyed playing Bingo.
He is survived by his wife Frances of Decatur, IL; children: Thomas W. Hamson and wife Lisa of Mt. Zion, IL; James R. Breeze of Pana, IL; Melissa K. Wendell and husband Shane of Decatur, IL; Michele I. Turner and husband Steven of Chatham, IL; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and 4 sisters: Edna, Dorothy, Patty, and Tina.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Karen Price and Mitty Slover, and one grandchild.
A private family graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday (03-05-2025) at Graceland Cemetery.
