Ross E Doll's Obituary
Ross E. Doll, 85, of Macon, Illinois, passed away September 5, 2024, at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital.
Ross was born in Litchfield, Illinois, on May 9, 1939, the son of Otto “Martin” and Gladys (Fahrenholtz) Doll. He married Mary Hicks on October 9, 1959, and they enjoyed nearly 65 years of married life together until her death in 2023. Ross served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam era. He later began working as a conductor for the Illinois Terminal Railroad, which later became Norfolk Southern. He retired after 30 years of service. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and created many beautiful scrollwork pieces. He was a quiet, humble man who will be greatly missed by his family.
Ross is survived by his children Joseph Doll, Teri (Richard) Bailey, and Cheryl Leary; grandchildren Richard (Alexandra) Bailey II and Ashley (Zach) McCulley; great-grandchild Ethan Bailey; and special friends Wayne and Lora Tipsword. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Charles Joseph Doll, and sister Charlotte Anne Holley.
Visitation for Ross will be from 10am to 11am on Thursday, September 12, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home and will be followed by a funeral service at 11am. Entombment in the Pieta section of the outdoor mausoleum will follow the service. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
