Roy A. Benjamin's Obituary
Decatur-Roy Arthur Benjamin, 76, of Decatur, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Palm Terrace of Mattoon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church 3850 Lourdes Drive, with Father Rick Weltin, Presider. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
Interment with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be to Our Lady of Lourdes or the Alzheimer’s Association. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements. Roy was born August 3, 1932 in Lovington, Illinois the son of Fred and Lena (Himmelbauer) Benjamin. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Kidd during the Korean Conflict. He retired from banking where he served as Vice President of Soy Capitol Bank in Decatur and then Vice President of the State Bank of Arthur. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes, Sertoma Club, Decatur Club, Greater Decatur Chorale, and the United Way. He was a member of Rotary International in Arthur. Roy enjoyed boating and traveling with Florence. He married Florence Tauber May 22, 1953 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Decatur.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of over fifty-five years, daughters; Karen E. Benjamin of Decatur, Ann B. (Benjamin) Hurst and husband Gregory of Springfield, and Kathleen M. (Benjamin) Trumbull and husband Paul of Bloomington, grandchildren; Chip and Hilary Hurst, and Marie, Caroline, and Natalie Trumbull, brother; Jack Benjamin, sisters; Leora Clifton, Roberta Sheets, and Rosemary Williams, and several nieces and nephews.
He was reunited in heaven with his parents, brother; Fred Benjamin, and granddaughter Alison Leigh Hurst.
