Rozetta Jane Collins' Obituary
Rozetta Jane Collins, 79, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, February 3, 2020 at her home in Decatur, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel Alphonso and Mae Maxine “Elliott” Lee and two sisters, Barbara Ann Lee and Mary Lou “Lee” Kelso.
Rozetta was born February 2, 1941 in Holton, Kansas to Herschel Alphonso and Mae Maxine “Elliott” Lee.
Rozetta started her education on the Mayetta Reservation. She then moved to Topeka as a child and attended Highland Park Junior High and graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka, Kansas in 1961. She also attended Washburn University.
Rozetta was united in Holy Matrimony to Jesse Milton Collins in Topeka, Kansas on February 4, 1964. This union was blessed with two daughters, Janell Collins and Joselyn “Collins” Stewart.
Rozetta was first and foremost was a devoted mother to her two daughters and held other employment such as Administrative Secretary for Westside Body Shop and Customer Teller at Credit Union One for over 10 years for each employer.
Rozetta accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and began working for the Lord at United Methodist Church on the Potawatomie Reservation. Rev. Ulysses Bowen, Pastor of East Hill Baptist Church baptized her. Rozetta was an active member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Topeka, Kansas for over 40 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, Church Clerk, Trustee and Young Adult choir member and after relocating Decatur, Illinois, Rozetta joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Decatur, IL and Mount Emory of Jacksonville, IL and served as mother of both churches.
Rozetta leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Jesse Collins, Round Rock, TX; a sister, Velma Miller, Topeka, KS; brother Jerry Lee, Topeka, KS; two daughters: Joselyn “Collins” (David) Stewart and Janell Collins; seven grandchildren: Trey, Topeka, KS; Angela, Kandyse, Alexia, Jordan, Allison, and Kaitlyn all of Decatur, IL; four great grandchildren; she also leaves a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends who loved and cherished and will miss her immensely.
