Ruth Ellen Grider's Obituary
Decatur-Ruth Ellen Grider, 93, of Decatur, passed away at 1:53 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2009 at Heritage Manor in Mt. Zion with her family by her side.
Services to celebrate Ruth’s life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2009 at the funeral home. Interment with “Flight Home” Ceremony will be in Macon County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Prairie Avenue Christian Church. Ruth was born September 24, 1915 in Decatur, the daughter of William F. and Noi (Mathews) Goddard. She graduated from Decatur High School class of 1931. She worked for A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company from 1935-1947 through W.W. II, following which she became a homemaker and then worked in the cafeteria at Eisenhower High School from 1960-1973. After retiring, Ruth loved to spend time with her grandchildren and her beloved Frankie. She was a member of the Prairie Avenue Christian Church. She married Frank Richard Grider November 9, 1940 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1999.
She leaves behind her son; David Grider and wife Carol of Decatur, grandchildren; Jason Grider of Mississippi, Jamie Grider and wife Tracy of Decatur, and Nicole Pavia and husband Chris of San Antonio, Texas, great-grandchildren; Angela, Alex, Alexandrea, Emily, Morgan, Colin, Lillian, and Christopher, and sister; Mary Tooley of Decatur.
She was reunited in heaven with her parents, husband, infant brother William Goddard, and one sister Dorothy Goddard.
