Samuel Ernest Patterson's Obituary
Samuel Ernest Patterson, 69, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at his home.
Sam was born April 16, 1948, in Evansville, IN, to Horace Edward and Dora Josephine (Dunning) Patterson, Sr. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He retired from Caterpillar after 30 years of service. He was an avid Nascar fan and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Dillon.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Heather) Patterson of Macon, IL; one grandson, Dillon Patterson of Macon, IL; three brothers, Pat Patterson of New Braunfels, TX, Randy Shaw of Baton Rouge, LA, and J.R. Shaw of Decatur, IL; two sisters, Dorothy Newkirk of Columbus, OH and Donna (Moe) Tague of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life for Sam Patterson will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2017, at Parkway Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Camp Butler at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Macon County Honor Guard.
