Sandra Joan Hunter's Obituary
Sandra Hunter, 83, of Decatur IL, passed away on May 25, 2024, at Hickory Point Christain Village.
Born Easter Sunday, April 13, 1941 to Edgar and Ruth Brown, Sandra lived her life as a true child of God from the very beginning. Her husband Charles often would say that she was one of God’s angels here on earth.
Sandra loved life and loved people. No one else could walk into a room and bring it to life with such amazing laughter and joy.
Her laughter, compassion and her love lives on through all of us. But I think above all she would want to be remembered for her faith. Sandra had an enduring, steadfast faith her whole life. Jesus was her Lord and Savior. Her life was a living example of the Bible verse Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.”
Sandra married Charles on September 26, 1959. They began their lifelong adventure on a train to California where they lived two thousand miles away from any family. Much of the time Sandra was alone in raising her two daughters while Charles was away on many deployments. She never doubted herself having to do it on her own and did it all with love and grace. She was truly a selfless, giving person, a pure example of unconditional love.
Sandra was a devoted and cherished wife to Charles for 64 years. She was a gentle and loving mother to Carrie (Steve) Funk and Karen (Douglas) Burton. She absolutely loved being a grandma to McLean (Jennifer) Funk, Amy Funk, Tessa (Adam) McCoy, John Burton and Jeffrey Burton. And truly adored being a “Gigi” to Reese, Kaeden, Addy, Liam and Theo. She was a dear and caring sister to Carla Lawrence and the late Phyllis Hoffman.
Sandra thrived on being active and treasured her friendships and involvement in Central Christian Church, Decatur Women’s Club, All States, Decatur Christian Women’s Connection and Book Club.
Please join us in celebrating her life. Services will be held on Saturday, June 1 at Central Christian Church, Decatur, Illinois. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with funeral services following at 11:00 am. Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church.
A private burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
