Sandra Elaine "Sandy" McMillen's Obituary
Decatur – Sandra Elaine (Hopkins) McMillen, 70, of Decatur, Illinois went to be with her Savior on March 28, 2014 in her home. She had won several battles through five years of bone marrow cancer to be with her husband, children and grandchildren as long as possible before she finally answered God’s call.
Sandy was born on February 7th, 1944 in Decatur, Illinois to Richard and Daphene (Skidmore) Hopkins. She married R.D. (Dean) McMillen on December 30th, 1968 in Oklahoma. She enjoyed tennis, snow skiing, and attending sporting events with her husband RD. She loved the opportunity to be with her grandchildren.
Sandy leaves behind her loving husband R.D., daughters Kim (Roger) Letterly of Latham, Shannon (David) Binder of Decatur, Deana (Jim) Smiley of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Glay (Dee) McMillen of Cerro Gordo, and beloved grandchildren Cameron and Jordan Letterly, Lindsey, Dakota and MacKenzie McMillen, and Morgan Binder.
Sandy was reunited in Heaven with her parents, her brother Gary Hopkins, and her son, Scott McMillen.
The family would like to give a special thanks for the shared compassion from Dr. Andrea Teague and the Dr. Goldstein team who allowed “Sandy M” to be with her family as long as possible.
Services to celebrate Sandy’s life will be held at 11 AM Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 2155 N Oakland Ave, Decatur, with Pastors Bill and Brock Abbott officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home from 4-8pm on Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to Pilgrim Lutheran Church or to the MRI Homeward Bound Animal Shelter.
