Sarah K. Durbin's Obituary
Sarah Katherine Durbin, 85, passed away peacefully at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Sarah was born December 20, 1933 in Pelham, Alabama, the daughter of Thomas and Alta (Baker) Carroll. Sarah was the sweetest woman who loved her southern cooking and St. Louis Cardinals team. She was truly content visiting with friends, family, and her sweet great-grandkids Tenley and Westen. Late Baby Gage always remained in her heart.
Sarah married Kenneth Durbin on July 24, 1955. They shared 63 years together in body and spirit. Sarah leaves behind her son, Steve (Debbie) Durbin; two daughters, Lorri (Mark) Powell and Carolyn Durbin; brothers, Tommy (Martha) Carroll and Buddy (Linda) Carroll; special sisters, Betty (Frank) Daniels and Alice Knowles; grandchildren, Brandon Durbin; Amber Powell; and her caretaker for many years, Alicia Durbin; great-grandchildren, Westen and Tenley Jaramillo; and her special furry friend “Bubba”.
Sarah was reunited in heaven with her parents, her husband, two brothers, baby Gage Durbin; best friends, Bob (Ginny) Peer and many family and friends. The family wishes to thank everyone involved in the care of Sarah, helping her to sustain the happiest quality of life possible. Special thanks to Betty, Sue, and niece Ginger for keeping her memories of her home in Alabama dear to her heart.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2019 at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur with graveside service immediately following the visitation at Graceland Cemetery in Decatur. The family requests casual attire (St. Louis Cardinals fans feel free to represent for Sarah!) Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
