Scott Lane Wilkinson's Obituary
Scott Lane Wilkinson, 73, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away on April 5, 2025, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the people he loved.
Scott was born on June 5, 1951, to Velma Wilkinson in Decatur, Illinois. He started working for the City of Decatur when he was 19. He worked there for 37 years. After marrying his first wife, Kay, they had 3 children: Tami Lilly (spouse Ray Lilly), Shad Wilkinson, and Kent Wilkinson (spouse Christa Wilkinson). Along the way of life there were stepchildren too: James, Lisa, and Brenda were one crew.
His final and longest marriage was to Cathy (Ferguson) Wilkinson for 30 years. He also gained 3 stepchildren at that time: Stephanie Beaver, Chandi Crocket, and Hank Houck.
What can we say about Scott? Anywhere he would go, he would know someone. His family loved him big, but so did his friends. He was a momma’s boy. He would take Velma to Walmart and dance down the aisle just to make her smile. He took care of her until she passed away at 93. He also took care of his brother Tom Wilkinson until he passed. Finally, he cared for his Aunt Beverly Heger until her passing on February 23 of this year.
Scott was a caring, giving, and loving person. If any of his family or friends needed him for anything, he would be there. His favorite things to do after retirement were to have coffee with Cathy and his buddies at New Moon, go to breakfast with Shad, holidays at Tami’s house, going to all the parades, eating out, burnt hot dogs, and taking car rides with his beloved dog Nola. Any time he could make it to a concert, Cardinals game, or Rams game until they left St. Louis (he was so mad), he was there. He loved traveling to see Kent in Georgia and to North Carolina to see family.
This man is greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. There are no words for our sadness. That goof would want us to go on and live life and love big.
Scott is preceded in death by his mother Velma Wilkinson; his brothers Lee Wilkinson, Tony Wilkinson, and Tommy Wilkinson; his great-granddaughter Madison Stephens (whom he is to hug and dance with); and all his aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Cathy (Ferguson) Wilkinson; his children Tami (Wilkinson) Lilly (spouse Raymond Lilly), Shad Wilkinson, and Kent Wilkinson (spouse Christa Wilkinson); stepchildren Stephanie Beaver, Chandi Crocket, and Hank Houck; grandchildren Jayna Stephens (spouse Daniel Stephens), Lauren Burns (spouse Kari Burns), Lia Stacey, Olivia Rogers (spouse Brawnson Rogers), Eriq Stacey, Isabella Wilkinson, Dalton Wilkinson, Jesse Harman (spouse Nathan Harmon), Robert Wilkinson, Cade Houck, Nathan Lilly (spouse Katlyn Lilly), Justin Lilly (spouse Nicolette Lilly), and Kristin Lilly (partner Jim Donnelly); great-grandchildren Nova Stephens, Ava Stephens, Arin Stephens, David Rogers, Brooklynn Rogers, Owen Rogers, Kody Rogers, Charlotte Lilly, Claire Lilly, Kalysta Lilly, Karter Lilly, and Kennedy Lilly.
