Shannon V. Walters' Obituary
Decatur-Shannon V. Walters, 74, of Decatur, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015 in Decatur Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
Shannon was born January 12, 1941 in Decatur, Illinois the son of George “Van” and Elsie (Lempke) Walters. He graduated from Eisenhower High School and retired from Caterpillar. Shannon was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and his classic car and truck. He was married to Pearl Wilkinson from 1960-1975. He then married Ellen (Cunningham) Powell on September 25, 1982.
Shannon leaves behind his wife Ellen, daughters Terri (Mike) Varick, Lori (Jerry) Boulware, stepdaughter Kris Ross, stepsons Kevin Powell and Kent (Dawn) Powell, grandchildren Brendan and Colton Varick, Nikole Boulware, Amanda Powell, Kassey (Daniel) Davenport, and Megan and Sara Ross, great-grandchildren Chase and Turner Powell and Emily Davenport, and sister Rachel Beatty.
Shannon was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary Walters.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff with the Arcadia Unit at Heartland, 4th floor at DMH, and DMH Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
Services to celebrate Shannon’s life will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial with “Flight Home” Ceremony will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015 in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church.
