Shirley Jean Benner's Obituary
Shirley Jean Benner, 77, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born January 21, 1943, in Decatur, IL to Oliver Don and Clarine (Russell) Compton. She was a telephone operator for 25 years with Decatur Memorial Hospital. She married Anthony William Benner on June 13, 1962 in Oakley, CA. Shirley loved spending time with her grandchildren, going to fairs and shopping.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Tony; her three daughters, Lori (Greg) Coberly of Rockford, MI, Christine Floyd of Decatur, IL and Debra (Robert) Harper of Decatur, IL; eight grandchildren, Mitch Floyd, Derek Floyd, Allyne Floyd, Ben Coberly, Abby Coberly, Evan Coberly, Nick Harper and Zack Harper; one great-granddaughter, Addilyn Pavelka; two sisters, Donna (Tom) Reeve of Decatur, IL and JoAnn Mesnard of Mt. Zion, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services to celebrate the life of Shirley Benner will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at Mary Queen of Angels Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday before the service at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home.
