Shirley "Gayle" Bruckner's Obituary
Shirley “Gayle” Bruckner, 90, of Sullivan, Illinois, formerly of Decatur, passed away February 27, 2026, at Aspen Creek Assisted Living Center.
Gayle was born in Abilene, Texas, on March 21, 1935, the daughter of Lewis and Gwendolyn (Hines) Crowder. She married Arthur Pierce Bruckner on February 8, 1957 in Abilene. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2016.
Gayle was a grade school teacher and an enthusiastic volunteer. She was a faithful, active member of First Presbyterian Church in Decatur. She was passionate about her service to the Garden Club of Decatur, where she earned the distinction of being a Lifetime Member. She served as a volunteer for many local organizations. Most of all, Gayle loved and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, who considered her the very best Grandma in the world. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Gayle is survived by her children David (Ann) Bruckner of Argenta, IL, and Debbie (Mark) Tucker of Windsor, IL; brother Joe (Susan) Crowder of Abilene, TX; grandchildren Josh (Solange) Patterson, Julie (Greg) Hale, Jaclyn (Chandler) Wescott, Jordan Breeden, Jacob Bruckner, Rachel (Cory) Sharp, and Jill (Christopher) Schutt, and Jan Yuhas; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and 2 brothers.
Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home is providing cremation services for Gayle. A memorial visitation will be held from 10am to 11am on Friday, March 20, at First Presbyterian Church in Decatur. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 11am in the church. Private burial will be at a separate time.
