Shirley M. Mahan's Obituary
Our mother, dad's wife went to heaven, as the sun arose this morning of August 15, 2012.
Shirley Margaret Bandy was her given name, born to Zora (Watts) and John Bandy in Lovington, Illinois April 7, 1927. She graduated from Decatur High School. Worked as a cashier at Piggley Wiggley during her teen years. She married John (Jack) Mahan on February 14, 1947. Their union lasted 65 years.
They had 4 children, Ella Watson of Decatur, Diana (Roger) Flesch of Moweaqua, John (Patty) Mahan of Illiopolis and Sheila Maxwell of Harristown. Mom worked at General Electric for many years, Seasonal, Decatur Electronics before retirement. Her longest job was mom and wife. She did this quite well.
She leaves behind her husband and kids, grandkids, Larry (Joey) Kraus, Teresa Flesch, Jackie Walker, Kathy Bledsaw, Candy Barker, Roger D. Flesch, Holly Coleman, Missy Horner, Toshia Coley, Bridgett Beals, John (Buddy) Mahan, Krystal Maxwell. She also leaves behind many great and great great grand kids. Her brother Lyle (buck) Bandy survives her, two sisters Cleo Nickolls of Hammond, and Patty (Rich) Fleming of Decatur.
She went to be with her parents, sister Dorthy, brothers Roger, Junior and Homer. We would like to thank the ICU at DMH for everything they did for mom. Our thanks go out to Heartland Nursing Home for all the care they gave her
Funeral service to celebrate Shirley's life will be at 2:00 pm Monday, August 20, 2012 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5-7:00 pm Sunday August 19, 2012 in the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery and conclude with the 'Flight Home' ceremony. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association or American cancer Society.
