Shirley Jean Patrick's Obituary
Decatur- Shirley J. 'Jean' Patrick, 84, of Decatur stepped onto Heaven's shore at 7:38 a.m. Sunday June 27, 2010 at Heartland Health Care Center.
Services to celebrate Jean's life will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2010 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the funeral home. Interment with 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be at Macon County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Baptist Church. Jean was born January 3, 1926 in Decatur, the daughter of Thomas Z. and Ethel M. (Hodges) Hollingsworth. She was a homemaker and worked seasonal retail at Betty & Bob's Florist and Decatur Trunk Factory. She was most proud of the years she spent working with her husband as part of the Red Cross Disaster Team traveling to such disasters as Hurricane Hugo. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, was a bible school teacher and with her husband, led the teenagers youth group. Jean loved to sing and was a former member of the Sweet Adelines Group in Decatur. She was past president of VFW 99 Ladies Auxiliary. She married Dwight E. Patrick on May 19, 1946 in Decatur. He preceded her in death October 23, 1998.
She leaves behind her son; Ronald D. Patrick and wife JoAnn of Oakley, daughters; Cynthia J. Dudgeon and husband Jerry of Decatur and Karen A. Dennis and husband Jim of Dalton City, eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren with one on the way, sisters; Helen Champlain of Johnston City and Alma Pearson of Alton, five sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was reunited in heaven with her parents, husband, son; Mark Patrick, brothers; Robert and Richard Hollingsworth, four brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
The family wants to thank the nursing staffs of St. Mary's Hospital and Decatur Memorial Hospital for the care they gave during multiple hospital stays. Also, send a very special heartfelt thanks to wonderful staff at Heartland for their compassion and loving care given to our mother and to us her children. Our thanks also to Dr. Khan for his understanding and compassionate care.
