Shirley Poling's Obituary
Shirley A. Poling, 86, of Decatur passed away peacefully August 9, 2024, in Manor Court of Clinton.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, August 24 at Graceland-Fairlawn Funeral Home with graveside services immediately following at the Cerro Gordo Cemetery. The attire is casual, and the family asks for no flowers. Memorials are donor’s choice.
Shirley was born on Feb. 13, 1938, in Lake Zurich, Illinois, the daughter of Merle and Minnie (Pauketat) Dubson. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1956. She married Jay D. Poling on May 14, 1961. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2019. Shirley retired as a receptionist from A.W. Cash Valve in 1995. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, traveling with her husband, bunco, shopping, and community involvement including the Red Hatters Society and Kiwaniannes.
The family would like to thank Desiree and the Elara Caring Hospice team for the kind care they provided Shirley.
She is survived by her son John (Robert) Poling of Bloomington, daughter Stacy Hayes of Decatur, grandsons Ryan (Samantha) Hayes and Colin Hayes of Decatur, granddaughter Katie (Kyle) Hayes of Argenta, and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her sister Jean Merriman, and son in law, Patrick Hayes.
