Shirley Jean Thompson's Obituary
Our momma, Shirley J. Thompson, 75, of Decatur, formally of Shelbyville Illinois left this life and entered into eternal life with all of her children by her side on December 20, 2013. Services to celebrate her life will be Saturday Dec. 28th at 11 a.m. with visitation on Friday December 27th from 5-7 p.m. at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral home, Decatur, Illinois. Her grandson Pastor Derek Bradshaw will be officiating. Shirley was born April 9, 1938 to Teddy & Juanita Gordon in Decatur. Shirley married William Thompson in 1956. They divorced and life went on for the both of them for many years until they crossed paths again and remarried in December of 1987. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and the Moose Lodge.
Mom is survived by her 6 children, 14 grandchildren, Son-Richard (Debbie) Tucker Jr.,Jennifer, Bill, Greg, Daughter- Kathy (Carl) Hughes, Cuan, Brynne, Daughter-Brenda Johnson- puppies Somi, JJ and Timmy, Son- Tom (Jamie)Tucker, Amanda, Amber, Tommy Jr., Tedrick, Daughter-Tammy (Marty)Bradshaw, Derek, Dustin, Daniel, Daughter-Valerie Shields-Breanda, James. Mom had 13 great grandchildren and 2 on the way. She had many stepchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Marilyn (Chet), Provines, Helen (Ed) Lucas. Uncle Leroy, (Gladys) Mills, Aunt Mary Weakly, Aunt Margie (Richard) Whitney. She has several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mom is survived by many friends and her newest best friend that she got for Christmas last year, her dog, Bo.
Mom was greeted in heaven by her parents, husband, and children-Teddy, Cynthia, Aaron and many other family members.
Through the years our mom always worked hard to support her children. Momma knew no stranger, was loved by many and a “mom” to a multitude of kids over the years while raising her own kids. She will be greatly missed.
Memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church Youth Group.
