Shirley Darlene (Arndt) Workman passed away peacefully at 6:35am on Monday, January 30th at her residence in Decatur, Illinois. Funeral services to celebrate Shirley's life will be 10 am Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Graceland F Read Obituary
I remember Shirley from our neighborhood on Mercer Street when we were teenagers. She was a spunky little red head. When I read of her passing many memories of the old neighborhood came to mind. I am sorry to the family, Rick, Randy and Robin and to her husband. I have many great memories of spending so many hours at your home with Shirley. She was a woman that we could talk to about anything, she was always smiling, a friend to us kids and a mom when we needed it! Dear Mom, Oh how I miss you already! I miss the phone calls that could lift me up. I remember when I was a senior involved in school, theater, sports and working, I would get home late and you would be sitting there shuffling a deck of cards. Always challenging me! I am grateful we had that last trip to Iowa together. Even though your health was declining for so long you would often have an outburst to let us know you were still here. I will forever shuffle cards in thought of you. I will forever be there for my children as you were with me and mine. I will forever hold you in my heart!! LOVE YOU MOM! P.S. Dear Mom, I will so miss you and all the phone calls. I could always call you and you would help me through a situation. I remember my senior year I would come home late after school,sports,theater and work and you would be sitting there at 1 in the morning shuffling cards always ready for a challenge. I will miss your laughter! I am grateful for our last trip together to Iowa. Even though you were declining for so long you had outbursts to let us know you were still there. Dear Grandma I know I didn't get to know you too well, I wish I could have. One of my earliest memories of you is sitting and putting together a puzzle with you. I feel God has blessed us all with a angel we all knew as momma Shirley. He gave my mother a best friend and me a spiritial friend. The Lord puts joy and laughter in our life to enjoy his presence and Shirley was differently mine. Now she has gone to be in his presence to enjoy laugher and joy with him.
